The Sanctuary - Youth in need

Last night was great! If any of you would like to join us on a night down at the Sanctuary Youth Center, please do! Here's the scoop on what happened...

10 of us came down to the Sanctuary Youth Center (A place for teens living on the street) and helped make a difference in the lives of these teens. A lot of us didn't know exactly what we were getting into, but after the training we received, things seemed to be ok. It was hard at first to think of things to talk about... but Rob and Galen (seen above) just told us to "Chill" with them. By the end of the night, some of the teens that haven't ever said much were chatting away to us. We brought down some sleeping bags, blankets, and clothes and at the end some of it was distributed to the teens in need. We had a big "THANK YOU" from some of the teens that received sleeping bags.

I look at the weather for next week and it says this: "Highs of 0, -3, -4 with lows of -8 with flurries next wednesday"... and I can't image being on the cold pavement without warmth or a roof over my head. I feel so blessed. Last night the wind and rain blew up against our house... but they were out there, downtown.

Last night we made a huge difference... it may not have seemed like much, but it was!!! Thanks to those who came down with us last night (Erik, Jason, Lauren, Rachel, Sarah, Jubie, Justin, Suzanne, and Nick) and brought clothing and blankets. If you'd like to help us, we are collecting blankets, sleeping bags, and hoodies/clothes, socks, gloves for the Christmas season. You can drop them by the church and write a note on it saying "Wes - Sanctuary Youth Center" on it, and we'll get it down there. Stay tuned for our next opportunity that you can be a part of!!!!!!

All about a monkey!

Ok, so here's what you get when you Google "Looking like a monkey". yes, George W. doin' Cricket.. (I think?)... Mind you, the first image that comes up is actually a monkey... but this was a lot funnier!!!!!

The reason for a monkey is exactly it. I was at Chris/Luke/Nathan's small group last wednesday, enjoying some peaceful "Crave at Home" time when everything seemed to be all about a monkey. Yes, and the other part I wont' bother talking about in front of the President. (I'd be afraid of what shape his face would turn to next!)

Sooooo, yeah our nativity scene outside looks pretty cool! The flamingos were a bit much, so Darin took em out. (yes, the ones you put in there nmj!)

things are getting crazier around her with "the nick" now an intern. Get set for "THE FUGITIVE" next friday. ONE WEEK TODAY!

Cops, Smoke and Firefighters... oh my!

Gooooooood thing we didn't see these guys show up at the church on friday night! Junior highs had their Girl/Guy night and it started off swell, don't ya think? Mr. Youth Pastor thought it'd be a sweet thing for teens to walk into a thick, THICK fog of smoke from our smoke machine. And don't try this at home, because yes, even though it is fake smoke, it does set off the fire alarm. SOooooo that was close call #1 with the Saanich Fire Dept. The Police come in when a neighbour threatened to call the cops on us. And it was totally legitimate. Some of the boys in the early morning hours tried scaring the girls by yelling and pounding on the door at the ramp. Hmm.. not too smart.

Now this is nothing to brag about. Just some crazy stories of stuff I wish didn't happen, but make cool stories afterwards. (I'm chuckling nervously)

So events went very well this weekend. If you weren't there, you really missed out! It was so much fun playin' gotcha, the "No/like" game and watching "Over the hedge" for Junior highs... and the house party was so random... it was so much fun! Jason got up to do a comedy thing and the only thing I remember about it was that I laughed loud and Melissa is 4'9". LOL ok, laughing again...
